Truck drivers and desk jobs

I read an astonishing fact that 86% of truck drivers are over weight. This article was in regards to chronic low back. I know in our clinic we have seen a variety of these workers. The most difficult thing is calorie intake and expenditure. It has always been said that calories in versus calories out makes for weight loss or gain.

Essentially a truck driver has a similar position as someone who is at a desk for 8 hours per day. Both need to pay extra attention to what foods they allow to enter their body. I would recommend utilizing protein and vegetables as the main source of energy. Packing fruits and vegetables is the only true way to get a proper amount.

Walking is also important! Taking time (30 minutes) after an 8 hour drive or shift at work to walk for 30 minutes can save your life!

The final thing is watch the fat intake. Our bodies crave fat when we are tired…nwhy you might ask? ENERGY!!!
Fat has 9 calories per gram. Remember calorie equals ENERGY!!!

It won’t be easy to change this stat, but if you know a truck driver, share this with them.
