Migraines and Headaches


Headaches are any pain or discomfort felt in the head region. Migraines are more severe and are accompanied by neurological signs and symptoms.

Headache:
Signs / Symptoms:
Often begin in the head with the pain being above the eyes or the ears, across the forehead, behind the head (occipital), or in the back of the upper neck.

Causes:
There are hundreds of different triggers that can cause a headache but stress is the number one trigger. Others may include cervical spine referral,

Types:
The most common is stress related and called a tension headaches. (which presents in the band like pattern with an increase in pressurearound the head). Most people will take some type of a pill to try and relieve any pain. This is just hiding the pain temporaty and not addressing the underlaying issue, which is why most people continue to have reoccuring headaches.

Treatment:

Migraine:
Signs / Symptoms:
Migraines are more severe than headaches and are described as a vice-like squeezing within the head. People affected by migraines might also experience sensitivity to both noise and sound, blurry vision, nausea and vomiting. Migraines may have an aura or pre-warning of specific smells or flashing lights.

Causes:
Migraines have been linked to spasms of the blood vessels supplying the brain with necessary nutrients. It is unclear on the exact cause of migraines.

Treatment:
There is no specific cure for migraines. Chiropractic adjustment can often provide immediate relief for migraine sufferers by releasing the tension associated with irregular blood flow to the brain. Often times patients find headaches are less painful and less frequent. By addressing the musculature, ensuring there is no impingement to the nerves, and nutritional counseling patients are able to return to a happy and healthy lifestyle
